Candice loves the idea of a vintage inspired wedding, so I threw this inspiration board together to help her during the planning process.  I find that Autumn weddings generally have the same color schemes, incorporating the faithful deep oranges and reds that are so popular for Fall.  However, I encouraged Candice to use those same colors, only a little more soft and muted.  Here’s what we came up with.

To keep colors like these from feeling too summery, incorporate textures such as raffia and wood and heavier fabrics, as well as alternatives like using wheat in your florals.

Simple blooms in some unexpected, yet lovely containers make for a truly beautiful centerpiece.

Mary and Brian served iced water with lemon in these quaint mason jars to refresh their guests after the ceremony.

Mary combed local flea markets and antique stores for these adorable vintage containers.

One thing I love about the color scheme that Mary chose for her flowers and bridal party attire is how it simply echoes colors found in nature, which fits so well with her venue.  Brides, this is extremely important if you want a cohesive look for your wedding.  Pink and lime green wouldn’t have fit nearly as well in this farm wedding.  Matching your venue to your overall theme is extremely important.

Dahlias and hanging amaranthus in one bouquet is enough to give me my flower fix for a year!  I just absolutely ADORE these bouquets, and the colors pop so well against the chocolate.  Very unexpected, and beautiful!!!

LOVE these pashminas that the bridesmaids wore, tying the whole look together.

Can’t have a farm without a tractor!  Honestly, this is one of my favorite images.  I just find it such a charming detail of the day.

The couple had bluegrass music for the reception, and some of the band members even played for the ceremony.

A new and unexpected look for bridesmaids is all white.  Yes, you heard that right….WHITE.  Traditionally, it was bad luck to show up as a guest to a wedding wearing white, and the bridesmaids wearing it was UNHEARD OF!  Having your girls wearing a shade of white slightly different from yours is becoming a more common practice these days.  Let’s face it ladies, no matter what someone wears to a wedding, NO ONE outshines the bride.  The great thing about bridemaids in white, is that it allows you to go all out on the bouquets, making the flowers the focal point, which will pop against the starck white background of their dresses.  The image below, courtesy of White Loft Studio Photography, shows how elegant and romantic the bridesmaids look, while providing proof that NO ONE can steal the bride’s thunder.

Green necklaces and shorter hemlines give a more relaxed feel to the strapless white sheaths as seen below.

I just love how the draping of the bridesmaid’s dresses below mimics the flowy fabric in the bridal gown.  Spaghetti straps and black sashes (not to mention the lack of a wedding day glow!) set these ladies apart nicely from the lovely bride.

A creative way to change up the look of your matching bridemaids is to use a dress that’s a little different from the norm, like the Anthropologie shift dress in the picture below, (via Amorology).  The matching bright yellow pumps adds a great pop of color, too.

Pink posies pop against the flesh colored dresses below, creating a very streamlined, but quite romantic look.  The wonderful thing about a classic cocktail dress is that it truly can be worn again.

If you prefer the matching look, but still want to do something a little more untraditional, consider skirts and tops as opposed to dresses.  Wearable, comfortable, and so chic!

The next few posts will focus on today’s trends in bridal party attire, and we’ll even have something for the fellas.  More specifically, I want to highlight some alternatives to the matchy-matchy taffeta of yesteryear. 

There is always a place for matching bridal attire, which I will talk about later, but first I’d like to explore the new trend of non-matching bridesmaids, which I LOVE.

Your girls do not have to look identical to be cohesive.  As seen in the photo above, simply having your maids choose a range of the same color still fits into her theme, but gives some personality to each girl.  While olive may be flattering for some, jade looks better on another.

LOVE the flesh toned dresses above.  So lovely, and the bride still stands out.  I think these choices are a great example of a dress that the ladies “can wear again”.

Best known and admired for their delicate, tissue-like layers, ranunculus stems make great wedding flowers, as they are long-lasting once cut.  They come in a large variety of colors, making it quite easy to coordinate with your chosen wedding colors.  Below are some of the more beautiful bouquets and centerpieces that have incorporated this lush stem.
